Review:

A trip to Memphis wouldn’t be complete without a visit to historic Beale Street. If you are in Memphis for the first time and don’t visit Beale Street, it’s like going to New Orleans and not going to Bourbon Street or Nashville without Broadway. You have to have the experience. My wife and I are fans of blues music so we decided to stop into the original B.B. King’s Blues Club for some music and a bite to eat. If there is a band playing there is a $5 cover to get in. When we were walked to our seats in the back and upstairs I was really surprised how big this place is! We snagged a front seat at the balcony looking down to the band. We loved the ambiance.

The balcony gave us a great view of the house Band “The King Beez”. The King Beez was created when the Doctors of Rhythm and Blues, David Bowen, Solomon McDaniel and James Jackson came together in 1991 to form what they hoped would become the standard bearer for rhythm and blues bands in Memphis and beyond. From the beginning, they became the main stay at B.B. King’s and continue to redefine excellence in a rhythm and blues performance on and off Beale Street.

Neither my wife or I were very hungry so we decide to split a starter.  We quickly both agreed to get BB’s Pork Tater Tots or “Totchos”. Tater Tots, Pulled Pork, Cheese and BBQ sauce, its all the basic food groups, right!.  As anticipated the totchos were great, I especially liked B.B. King’s Spic BBQ Sauce. The pulled pork was tender and juicy and the tots were crispy on the outside and light a fluffy on the inside and with the slight spice and tang of the barbecue sauce these totchos were great. My wife liked them so much she asked me the recreate them sometime, so I had to pick up a bottle of B.B. King’s Spic BBQ Sauce to make the recreation all that more authentic.

The King Beez were great loved the music and the entire atmosphere at the original B.B. King’s Blues Club.  If you find yourself in Memphis and on Beale Street you should definitely visit the original B.B. King’s Blues Club to listen the The King Beez and try BB’s Pork Tater Tots.

Cheers,

Chris
