About:

Established in the year 1883 and had been continuously operated for the last 120 years.  Located in the little town of Tres Pinos, California which in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s was the rail center of San Benito County.  Hauling cattle and wheat to the far reaches of the world. At one time the town has two hotels, six bars, brothels and numerous other businesses. In 1944, the railroad discontinued its run to Tres Pinos and dismantled the station. Tres Pinos became a quiet rural community, in the shadow of Hollister, and has since dwindles down to one saloon and two dinner houses.

Review:

I’m not sure I totally understand the name of the place. I’m assuming it’s intended as the last stop after a full round of golf, but how golf and cowboys and Tres Pinos intersect.

The moment you step foot past the swinging double-doors into the Hole, it’s like being transported onto the set of an old Western movie set.

For starters we ordered the special Cowboy Corn Bites.  These were delicious little corn and jalapeno fritters deep fried to a golden brown served with a chipotle dipping sauce. They were very tasty.

For my main dish, I went with the barbequed tri tip sandwich. A healthy portion of tri tip was served on a toasted French style rolls topped with barbeque sauce and caramelized onions.  The meat was tender and juicy, cooked to a nice medium rear. The barbecue sauce was sweet and a little tangy and the caramelized onions were a nice complement to this sandwich.

I substituted the French fries for beer battered onion rings for and additional $2 on the suggestion of our server.  The batter was light and crispy, the onions were cooked just right so when you took a bite you didn’t pull out the entire onion ring out of the batter.

If you find yourself in Hollister or visiting Pinnacles National Park stop in the 19thHole Booz and Food, you’ll be glad you did.

Cheers,

Chris
