When we arrived we checked in with Sally and she directed us where to park our 5er. The location was a fairly level spot on the bluff overlooking the farm fields, which appear to be recently planted.

One all set up we headed inside to try their famous From the Farm Tacos. Paula and I each ordered one chicken, one pork and one beef From the Farm taco with chilies and cheese. (From the Farm Taco (w/ Grilled Anaheim Chile & Monterrey Jack Cheese) $3.00)

All three tacos were very delicious especially with the mango salsa on the pork taco, the avocado salsa on the beef taco and the spicy green chile salsa on the chicken taco.

After eating Paula checked out their emporium that features a hand-curated selection of vintage items  & unique finds. While I checked out their market that offers hand-crafted sauces & jellies, local raw-honey, & more!

We then went into town to run some errands and visit the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park.

Once we got back to the 5er I had to take the short walk from the farm to see the McPhaul Bridge (aka the “Yuma Bridge to Nowhere”) that was originally built in 1929 as a way for travelers on US 95 from Yuma to Quartzite to cross the – then presumably raging – Gila River. It was the longest suspension bridge in Arizona at 798 feet and a beautiful specimen of the era. But after 39 years of service, there was concern that the bridge wouldn’t be able to carry the increasing weight and size of modern traffic and the road was rerouted to a new simpler bridge in 1968 thereby ending its life as a useful piece of infrastructure.

Today the McPhaul Bridge crosses only desert sand and rocks these days, but the Arizona air has kept it remarkably intact.

Henry Harrison McPhaul was a former Yuma Territorial Prison Guard, sometimes known as Hard Rock Harry. The only Yuma resident to ever become an Arizona Ranger, Henry spent many of his later years prospecting for gold on his land near the Dome Bridge over the Gila River. He was such a regular sight that eventually the bridge was renamed in his honor – the McPhaul Bridge.

The next morning we woke up and got the 5er hooked up and ready for the road. But before leaving we went back inside From the Farm and ordered two Breakfast Burritos ($5.00). They were loaded with eggs, potatoes bacon and cheese (Sorry forgot to take a picture). The breakfast burrito was tasty and the best thing is I didn’t have to cook or do dishes. That’s a win win.
