About:

Originally built in 1923 as the Rialto Theater, it was the longest running single-screen theater in the United States until December 1998, when a fire completely gutted the building.  Reopened in December of 2005 as The Tavern Grille, you will see the charred concrete walls that frame the dining room today. The building next door, built in 1925 as a grocery store, was converted into the upscale Tavern Hotel in 2011 and guests enjoy welcome cocktails at the Tavern Grille Bar after checking in. Upstairs from the Grille is a luxury penthouse that is part of the Tavern Hotel experience.

Review:

This was our second visit to The Tavern Grille, you can read the first review (here). For starters we ordered the Santa Fe Spring Rolls, they were very flavorful and ancho ranch sauce melded well.

To drink I wanted the Lumberyard Red Ale from Flagstaff but they were out so I went with the RoadRash IPA from That Brewery in Cottonwood. I had the RoadRash during our last visit and really enjoyed it and I enjoyed it again this time. For my main selection after being undecided I finally went with the Baja Fish Sandwich. I wasn’t disappointed with my choice, the brioche bun was super soft and between it was a large fried beer battered Alaskan cod filet topped with pepper jack cheese, shredded cabbage and a Baja sauce. The fish was crispy, moist and flaky and the Baja sauce had great flavor and brought the sandwich together.

This was our second visit to The Tavern Grille in Cottonwood and we will be back again next year when we spend the spring in the Verde Valley. If you are in the Verde Valley, check out The Tavern Grille.

Cheers,

Chris
