About:

Chilleen’s on 17 originally opened as Kid Chilleen’s Bad ASS BBQ and Steakhouse in February of 2003 by Scott and Donna Chilleen. After many ups and downs Scott and Donna along with daughter Aleah, contacted Spike TV’s Bar Rescue in hopes that they could save an almost bankrupt business. Well they did! Bar Rescue came to the little town of Black Canyon City in late January of 2013. After five days of filming, remodling and staff re-training Kid Chilleen’s reopened, as Chilleen’s on 17. Review:

While staying in the Verde Valley Arizona Paula and I wanted to meet up with some friends we hadn’t seen in several years. Our friends live in the Phoenix area so we wanted to find a place to meet for a late lunch that was about half way between Phoenix and the Verde Valley and settled on Chilleen’s on 17.

I ordered a Grand Canyon Brewing Company Amber beer to drink and The “I want it all” BBQ Plater to eat. The platter came with 2 slices of brisket, 2 St. Louis ribs, 2 baby back ribs, and 1/2 chicken along with a side of baked beans and coleslaw.

Eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. The brisket was delicious with just the right amount of chew. The baby back ribs were a little over cooked and fell right off the bone. However, they were still very tasty. The baked beans and coleslaw were also good. I took the St. Louis ribs and the 1/2 chicken to go.

I later shredded the chicken and had it in a quesadilla and took the rib meat off the bone, added some butt sauce and made a sandwich, both were delicious.

If the opportunity presented itself again and we needed to meet someone for lunch between Cottonwood and Phoenix, I would go to Chilleen’s on 17 again.

Several months later my wife said I don’t to set up another house just to pack it up and move again. What do you think about getting an RV and then when we decide where to buy we will have a place to stay while we remodel the new house and not have rent and a mortgage. I thought this was a brilliant idea and thus began the process of looking for the right RV. I found the right RV after months and months of research and looking, a 2018 Open Range Roamer 371MBH. This model has a mid-bunk that I use would use as an office with a door that will shut, wife requirement so she will not have to listen to me on the phone. Then the next challenge my current truck a GMC 2500HD will not tow the new 5er. So a truck shopping I went. Problem solved a 2017 RAM 3500HD Laramie 4X4 Dully with a Cummins Diesel. So bought the truck and 5er, put the house on the market and stated the task of downsizing from a 3600 sqft house to a 410 soft 5er and 2 10X15 climate controlled storage units. The house sold in November 2017 and after running foodiemadesimple.com for 3 1/2 years, Jerald and I decided to start rvcookingmadesimple.com where I will take what I created in a rather large 200 sqft kitchen in my sticks and bricks and recreate it in an RV kitchen breaking it down and making it simple.
